For the first time, the three Deols will be sharing the same frame and it's but natural that people will think so when they see all of us together. After a long wait and search, we have finally been able to find a suitable script. What made you decide on a film that's a family drama? We wanted to do a film that would be more of a showcase of Papa. He's a legend and he needed the right type of script to make a comeback. All these years, he has been acting in films for the sake of doing something. He needed something more on a larger scale.
How was it sharing screen space with your father and brother for the first time? I was really very excited and in fact apprehensive on my first day of shoot. It was definitely not my first film but I had never shared the same frame with them and especially with Papa around, I always kept wondering if I did a shot the right way. Which would you rate higher - Dharamendra the actor or the father? (with a frown) That's not a right question to ask but I think I'd choose Dharamendra the father over the actor any day. I have interacted with so many people in and outside the industry but there are very few people who are like him. In him I always see a genuine guardian who's always willing to lend a helping hand.
Is his character in Apne, similar to this? Apne is a story about a father and his sons. Like every family, they have their own sets of problems when the father dreams of something for his sons and the sons in turn don't approve of it. What about the rest of the cast of Apne? I think we got together some really talented actors. Kirron Kher could be the ideal mom that you'd look for and Shilpa was simply at her best. Even Katrina has evolved a lot as an actor and as for Victor Banerjee, is a cool dude. In short, what do we take back after watching the film? If I say it's a true family film, I may end up sounding cliched but I don't have an option. After seeing Apne, you'll really feel like going home to your family and be with them. In life, there are many issues which if not discussed at the right time, may get blown out of proportion. So talk with your family and keep loving them.
